I am also starting a webcomic. I want to have it launch January 23rd so I've been trying to work on the site design and the characters/story.This character in particular is... haunting.

I tend to get REALLY upset over REALLY minor things. Sometimes, it doesn't take much to set me off. It used to be a problem when I was in high school, but I think I've toned it down quite a bit over the years.

Maybe it's because I secretly wish I was an assassin, or a ninja, but I tend to come up behind my friends and fake stab them. It's a token of love, and if you've gotten stabbed more than once, I love you. Truly. I think, however, I should start expanding it to people everywhere. The elderly. Because I love them so. And hey, some might have 'nam-like flashbacks. It's good to remember.

Regular Joe's. Bus stop's just wont feel the same without a random woman fake stabbing you.

Husky people. Because, it isn't awkward at all digging into someone else's love handles.

And of course, animals. Because through domestication, they just don't have enough enemies. They need to start being on top of their game.

It seems like a legit idea. No?

Kung Fu Panda 2

I cried for about an hour in that movie. Like a bitch. Really beautiful.The Muppets.

Hands down my favorite "family/animated" comedy of 2011. Super sweet and super cute. Plus my favorite character, the spanish prawn, got a cameo.

A Cat Named Frisco

When my brother and I were about 12, we saved a cat from a pack of feral dogs at my granny's house.

We kind of adopted each other after that.

She was all kinds of awesome and would even come to us when we called her name. No matter where she was.

One day, my brother and I were in the kitchen of my granny's house, eating some chips and salsa.

When we hear a meowing out of the door that lead to the backyard.

When we opened the door, we saw her sitting up proudly, staring at us expectantly.

Dead mouse at her feet.

It took me five years until I was able to eat salsa. And to this day, it can't be chunky.

Sketch Dump Part Tres

Here are some sketches from my Animal Anatomy field trip to the Page Museum. They had a friggin MAMMOTH!!!! It made kid Alex nerd out. I had never seen anything older than a turtle at a zoo so this was just mind boggling. And everything during the Ice Age was huuuuge so it was extra-awesome. (THERE WERE CAMELS IN THE US!?!?)

Here are some sketches from my Story class. We had to do a short sequence with the old woman and small dragon from How To Train your Dragon. Rad Sechrist is our teacher and he was stressing how much faster you are if you actually warm up. VERY true. I've been warming up before I try to do a comic or storyboards and I'm so much faster that I would be if I just tried to go at it.

I also moved this weekend. So I collected a lot of sketches watching the movers lift super heavy things. Only 3 that I like however. and the rest are just gestures I've collected through the weekend.

Class Homework

We were supposed to take the character we had come up with (mine is a girl in a world that is extraordinary and she is completely ordinary) and make up some beats we would like to see in a movie/comic/show of it and draw it out.

So for the first beat I thought it would be cool to do a kind of introduction or set up. I was watching this chunk from Tootsie (Skip to about 00:32 in) and thought it would be cool to take that and show the people in her world.

For the second scene I thought it would be cool to have her as a kid and learning that she isn't different at all. Kind of like an intervention, but with her parents and school principal.

I was kind of inspired by the "FOREVER" scene in The Sandlot for that one. But... less threatening and more disheartening.

I finally saw Tangled. It was all kinds of gorgeous. Maximus and Rapunzel were amazing. A Frying-pan wielding barefoot princess who concerns herself with her OWN journey. Awesomeness.

The Ringling 100

I forgot to mention, but everyone should shell out the almost $50 and buy The Ringling 100 book. It was put together by a few friends of mine to raise scholarship money for Ringling College students. It is a book that compiles 100 artworks from Ringling Alumni and current students into a nice ans shiny (and really glossy) book. All of the works were judged by a panel of 4 artists (including the very awesome and inspiring Deborah Healey- Former Disney, Current Ringling Concept Teacher/Champion and Kathy Alteri - Dreamworks Diva).I was lucky enough to get picked amongst the other 99 amazing works. Most of the kids on my links have a drawing in the book so even if you don't like my work personally, think about owning a chunklet of Lindsey Olivares or Greg Peltz!
